PLANS FOR NEW MULTI-USE DEVELOPMENT TO COMPLETE GLASGOW\u2019S COLLEGELANDS<\/h1>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Initial plans for the final phase of Collegelands in Glasgow have been unveiled today, (14th March) as a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) was lodged with Glasgow City Council by Glasgow Enlightenment Limited, a joint venture between Dawn Developments Limited and Drum Property Group.<\/p>

Named Collegelands Park, the proposed \u00a395m multi-use development will feature a community-led arts facility with event space, caf\u00e9 and courtyard, a student residence offering 586 bedspaces and a BTR (Build to Rent) block of 182 apartments on the five-acre site, which borders Duke Street and High Street.<\/p>

At the heart of the new neighbourhood, a short walk from the city centre and Strathclyde University, will be a two-and-a-half-acre park, the first to be created in the city in many years. It will feature orchard and blossom trees and community growing areas and will provide a new set of lungs for the city, helping to improve air quality and public health.<\/p>

Paul O\u2019Donnell of Glasgow Enlightenment said: \u201cThis new development will mark the completion of the 20-year long Collegelands masterplan to regenerate the Calton area of the city. This important project will create 250 jobs during construction, and we hope will act as a catalyst for further development in the area.<\/p>

\u201cThese plans are the culmination of years of conversation with local people and the City Council on how this final piece of the Collegelands jigsaw could look. \u00a0We are excited to draw all these ideas together into this new proposal and to finally be able to share it with the local community. It is important that the new development is right for those who live, study and work in the Merchant City and Calton areas of Glasgow.\u201d<\/p>

A series of events are being held during the pre-application process and views of local people can be shared through the new Collegelands Park website www.collegelandspark.co.uk<\/p>

A formal planning application will be lodged with Glasgow City Council in the summer following the consultation period.<\/p>

Tricia Fort, Chair of Calton Community Council said \u201cThis is a significant site and we would urge residents and businesses to get involved and have their say in the consultation process.\u00a0 We\u2019ve been in conversation with the site owners for some time now and have been able to introduce them to a local charity, Dream Machine Productions, that has some interesting ideas for parts of the site to be community owned and run.\u00a0 We\u2019re keen to know what the whole community thinks of these ideas as well as the wider development proposals.\u201d<\/i><\/p>

The first of the public consultation events will take place in the This is Fresh student residence building at 10 Havannah Street in Glasgow on 26th<\/sup> of March from 3-7pm.<\/p>

Glasgow Enlightenment\u2019s Graeme Bone added: \u201cWe hope that local people will come along and have their say on this proposed development which will not only enrich the area by providing much needed new homes and student accommodation, but also offer a safe, well-lit place where people can exercise or relax and chat with friends, along with community cultural events for everyone to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>

The Collegelands regeneration project was launched in 2004 in a bid to bring new homes and opportunities to the Calton area of the city.\u00a0 Today Collegelands is one of Scotland\u2019s most successful mixed-use developments with a thriving community, a new Moxy hotel, offices, homes and shops.<\/p>

Paul added: \u201cThe original concept for regeneration at Collegelands remains the same as it did almost two decades ago \u2013 to create a vibrant city centre district that will serve Glasgow for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>
